Learn about children’s and young adult’s information needs and behaviours, and best practices in delivering information services and support to children and young adults.
IS40370 Management for information professionals, Tues. 4:00-6:00
This module prepares you for management positions in profit and non-profit organisations.
IS40500 Systems design & analysis, Tues. 11:00-1:00
This module teaches a socio-technical approach to designing information systems. You’ll learn how to discover stakeholders’ needs and design a system to meet those needs.
IS30050 Information Architecture, Mon. 9:00-10:00 & Wed. 9:00-10:00
Information architects seek to create information environments that reduce barriers to communication and access, while improving the efficiency and effectiveness for all parties, including organisations and their customers, system designers and users. The focus of this module is on reinforcing best practices for information architecture by analysing and evaluating and suggesting improvements to web site designs.
IS30070 Cybersociety? Technology, Culture & Communication, Tues. 4:00-5:00 & Thurs. 3:00-4:00The module examines anthropological perspectives on information and technology, and empirical evidence regarding the impact of new technologies on culture, community, and society.
IS30240 Creating and publishing digital media content, Fri.
This module teaches how to create and publish media rich content on the web using digital media technologies. Active learning sessions will engage participants in the practical application of digital media technologies.
IS20010 Advanced information skills for problem-solving, Wed. 10:00-11:00
This will teach you skills and strategies to find, evaluate, use and manage information, including digital audio, video, photos and text.
IS20020 Organisation & retrieval of information, Mon. 11:00-12:00 & Wed. 12:00-1:00
This module examines ways information is structured in information systems for a wide range of applications and users.
IS20100 Personal & professional development, Mon. 1:00-3:00
This module is for students who are interested in pro-actively preparing and planning their professional careers. Students will learn how to evaluate their own performance and develop effective career plans.

IS30020 Web Publishing, Lectures Tues. 10:00-11:00 Labs: 100% online
This module examines how the basic tenets of mark-up language theory have influenced the development of HTML (Hypertext Mark-up Language). The main focus of this module is the practical creation of web pages using XHTML (eXtensible HTML).
IS40560 Digital libraries, Mon. 1:00-3:00
Mobile technologies, new media, and pervasive computing are helping us to re-invent digital libraries. This module examines technical, managerial and human issues associated with the concept of digital libraries.
IS40310 Weaving the web, Wed. 10:00-12:00
The social challenge of the Internet is discussed from a technical perspective. Topics such as digital exclusion and political participation, pornography, censorship and content control, privacy and encryption, digital identity and authentication are examined.
IS40430 Contemporary issues in professional practice, Thurs. 4:00-6:00
This module examines current challenges that information professionals face in profit and non-profit organisations. Students learn how to design and create ePortfolios.
IS40520 Organisation of information, cataloguing & metadata, Wed. 1:00-3:00
This module examines the ways in which libraries and organizations describe and create access to information resources. Students will be introduced to traditional cataloguing principles, as well as to modern metadata standards.
IS20110 Social computing & media, Wed. 10:00-11:00 & Fri. 9:00-10:00
This module teaches you about social computing applications, including their pros and cons. You’ll also learn how to create smart phone applications.
IS20030 Information & collaboration in organisations, Mon. 2:00-3:00 & Wed. 4:00-5:00
Students learn how to assess information requirements in an organisation, why some information does not fit into formal structures, and how to conduct a socio-technical analysis of information practices in an organisation.
IS20050 Theories of information behaviour, Mon. 11:00-12:00 & Wed. 12:00-1:00
This module covers fundamental concepts of human information behaviour, including the contexts and processes of information behaviour, and incentives and barriers to information seeking. Do not take this module if you are also taking Information behaviour in the 21st Century.
