Professional Programmes
Our Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) and the Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies (GradDipLIS)] programmes allow students to earn degrees that are accredited by the Library Association of Ireland (LAI) and are internationally recognised. These degrees qualify students to work as library and information professionals in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and throughout Europe. Recent graduates have dynamic careers as Chief Information Officers, Library Directors and Knowledge Managers.
Prospective students are required to have prior experience of working in a library or information environment.
The MLIS requires the submission of a capstone project, and provides an opportunity to undertake advanced study and research in library and information studies.
All eligible applicants are advised to apply for the MLIS in preference to the GradDipLIS. The reasons for doing this include greater freedom in choice of modules and greater international recognition of the degree. Because of the flexibility between the MLIS and the GradDipLIS we treat applicants for the MLIS and the GradDipLIS equally, including offering an MLIS place to some applicants who apply for the GradDipLIS, if they are deemed to be suitable candidates.
