Scoil an Léinn Eolais agus na Leabharlannaíochta UCD

New MSc in Information Systems

SILS has received UCD approval to offer a new Master’s of Science degree in Information Systems beginning Autumn 2012.

 

The aims of this programme include:

 

  • Educating the next generation of information professionals, including Chief Information Officers, who effectively capture, organize, protect, archive, and appropriately disseminate information critical to an organization’s success;
  • Educating the next generation of information professionals who can create transformative enterprises and services in the fields of information and social computing; and
  • Educating the next generation of infomration professionals and leaders in public service, inlcuding NGOs, government agencies and non-profits

The programme builds on research and teaching expertise at SILS that focuses on the interplay of people, information, technology and social structures, and is aligned with the successful Irish information technology sector. International students in this degree programme will have the opportunity to have an Irish experience, along with an international educational experience.

 

Courses (modules) that are part of the MSc programme offer opportunities to interact with professionals and organizations outside academia. For example, students will have the opportunity to collaborate on a 30-credit capstone project working with businesses and non-profit organizations. Examples of other courses that students may take include:

  • Information Architecture
  • Web publishing
  • Systems design and analysis
  • Management for information professionals
  • Research methods I & II
  • Optional, elective modules in computer science
