You're invited to Strictly Come Wiki 2012!

Holly & Berries

It’s time for…. Strictly Come Wiki 2012! You are cordially invited to Strictly Come Wiki 2012, hosted by the students in IS40530 and SILS student group, InfoSoc. This year’s event will take place in SILS on Wednesday, November 28th, starting at 6pm.

As always, the soiree features an Open House of the collection development work for IS40530. Prizes will be awarded by a panel of 5 judges in Strictly fashion!

You will also be tempted with apple and mince pies and various beverages to celebrate the end of Semester 1.

The chosen charity this year is the Aisling Project (http://aislingproject.com). Please help us support their essential after-school programme for 8-13 year old children. Cash donations are very welcome, as are books as follows:

  • Books generally, both new and previously loved books in good condition, aimed at children between the ages of 8-13
  • Book vouchers
  • Cookbooks suitable for young people; we ask that you bundle a non-perishable ingredient or cooking utensil with your cookbook to help the children start cooking!
  • Craft books; we ask that you bundle craft materials with your book as appropriate to help a child start learning, e.g., knitting yarn, craft paper, etc.

Boxes for donations are located in SILS Rm 107; cash donations should be given to Crystal Fulton.

A member of Aisling Project will be on hand to accept the donation at the soiree.

And the fun doesn’t end there!  Courtesy of the efforts of InfoSoc, there will be some very nice baskets raffled off, filled with great vouchers and gift products from sponsors, and hopefully textbooks of use to students in Semester 2.  Tickets cost 1 euro each or 6 for 5 euro.   Raffle tickets will be sold in classes and in SILS. 50% of the proceeds will go to the Aisling Project and 50% will help support InfoSoc events in Semester 2.

On that note, we’d like to thank the sponsors to-date for their support:

  • Media Arts
  • Peter Mark
  • Powerscourt
  • Proquest

Stay tuned for additional upcoming events hosted by InfoSoc including carol singing for charity, Wednesday, December 5th, time to be confirmed. The singing will take place on the concourse outside SILS/Campus Bookshop.  Led by John King.  Charitable donations for Aisling Project are welcome and will be passed on to the charity before the break.
