UCD School of Information & Library Studies

Scoil an Léinn Eolais agus na Leabharlannaíochta UCD

Undergraduate Students

SILS currently offers two subjects at undergraduate level:

1. Information and Social Computing

Information and Social Computing may be taken as a major subject within the following programes:

It is possible to take Information and Social Computing as a minor (20 credits) or joint major (25 credits) in combination with another subject in the above degrees. Most Information and Social Computing modules may also be taken as electives within any undergraduate degree programme, subject to timetable availability. UCD Arts subjects are usually timetabled in six groups – students can choose a maximum of one subject from any group.

Note, previously this programme was called Information Studies. It's name was changed to more accurately reflect the content of the programme.

2. Information and Library Studies

Within the BA and BSocSc, Information and Library Studies may be taken as a major subject (30 credits) in combination with a minor (20 credits) in another subject. This is intended for students who wish to obtain an entry-level qualification in Information and Library Science that is recognised by the Library Association of Ireland (LAI).

Students must also complete six weeks of full time information and library science work experience in a library and/or other organization to obtain the accreditation by the LAI.

Full programme details, including brief module descriptions, can be accessed here. See our SILS Brochure.
