Lady Chryss O'Reilly Scholarships
In 1993 the Ireland Fund of France introduced a scholarship programme for students of modest means wishing to visit France for language training, research or simply the continuance of their studies.
The awards, at the discretion of the university authorities, may be divided among two or more students, or used to top up grants from the European Union.

The NUI French Government Medals and Prizes for Proficiency in FrenchThe French Government presents medals annually to be awarded in each of the four NUI Constituent Universities. The awards are based on the results of the Honours Degree examinations in French for the BA Examinations and also, where applicable, the BComm International/European and BCL International Examinations. The NUI also awards a cash prize of €1,000 to each of the recipients. The Medals may not be awarded to any student whose native language is French. There are no special application procedures or entry requirements.
Mary Kate O'Kelly Scholarship
This scholarship was established in accordance with the wishes of the late Sean T. O Ceallaigh is available, when funds permit, to enable outstanding graduates of UCD to proceed to PhD study.
To qualify for the award, the candidate must be a graduate of UCD in French who has recently obtained the MA Degree or MLitt Degree in French with First Class Honours and intends to proceed to PhD level.
German Studies
The Helga and Hugh Staunton Scholarship
The UCD School of Languages, Literatures and Film (German) is happy to announce the launch of the Helga and Hugh Staunton Scholarship. The scholarship is valued at up to €5000 per annum, it will be awarded for one year (MA full-time) or over a period of two years in the case of MA part-time distance students. The scholarship is intended to support a student of proven academic excellence who wishes to pursue an MA in German at UCD.
Terms and Conditions:
(1) Applicants must be resident in Ireland and registered for an MA in German at UCD at the time of taking up the scholarship.
(2) Applicants must have a first or upper second class honours primary degree or the equivalent. If examination results are not known at the time of application, the School may make a provisional offer of the Scholarhip on the condition that the applicant’s final result is a first or upper second class honours or the equivalent.
(3) Applicants must hand in a written application with the following supporting documentation: a) a curriculum vitae, b) academic transcripts, c) a summary outline of a potential research project (1500 words), d) two referees’ reports.
(4) The successful candidate is expected to complete the course.
(5) The successful candidate is expected to attend the German research colloquium on a regular basis.
(6) The application deadline is 31 August.
DAAD One-year Scholarships to a German University for Irish Students
The scheme is intended for second year Irish students of German (Arts and BCIT) who wish to spend a year studying and carrying out research at any German university during their degree course at UCD and who can submit a well defined project for the year abroad.
Project: Applicants will be required to draw up a project in a special area of interest. This may be in the field of German language, literature, art, film, history, economy or politics.
