“I had studied French at school but wanted something new and absolutely fell in love with Italian.” – “Originally it was not my intention to continue studying Italian after first year but I literally fell in love with it.” This is what some of our star graduates have said about the subject, which, like most of our students, they took up from scratch at UCD. We hope you too will fall in love with Italian and that you will become sufficiently enamoured with it to want to learn not just the language of Italy but also its history and culture. With us you can do all of that, reaching native-like proficiency in Italian by the time you graduate – if you really commit to the subject and if you spend your third year at an Italian university (“without a doubt the best year of my life!”, say our star graduates) – and finding out all you ever wanted to know about Italy, from Dante through the Renaissance to Mussolini and Berlusconi. Perhaps you share the opinion of those who feel that there is not much point in studying Italian since it won’t get you a job. If you do, you should take heed once again of what our star students say: “It is a genuine pleasure to study Italian and I feel like it will give me the opportunities and skills to go where I want after college, whatever I decide to do.” So welcome on board! And do make sure to fall in love!
