Second Language Studies
This Masters programme is an interdisciplinary programme with input in University College Dublin from linguistics, psychology, sociology and education. Second Language Acquisition research examines the processes that result in the acquisition and use of a second or further languages and relates its results to the wider general context of cognition. The programme also focuses on applied SLA research which relates its findings to issues of teaching and learning languages in formal (classroom) or naturalistic settings. SLA research also explores issues of identity construction, the role and identity of the speaker in the educational system and the issue of integration of migrant speakers.
