A postgraduate programme in Second Language Studies (MA and structured PhD)
Description
In a multilingual global society, the monolingual speaker is almost extinct. This has given rise to new areas of studies which, by definition, are interdisciplinary, principally emanating from linguistics, psychology, sociology and education. Second Language Studies will treat both the process and product of second language learning. This Masters programme comprises course work and thesis. It is expected that these courses will become the basis for a taught PhD programme. It has grown out of a concentration in linguistics and language courses within the School of Language Literatures and Film and the shared interest in language of members of the language sections. It is an interdisciplinary programme with input from linguistics, psychology, education, and sociology. One Year MA
