UCD School of Social Justice is offering bursaries to five students entering the M.Sc./Graduate Diploma in Equality Studies or the MA/Graduate Diploma in Women, Gender and Society. A donation from two benefactors has enabled the School to offer these financial supports in 2012-13.

Social Justice Bursaries will be awarded to students who are experiencing financial or other disadvantage. Students who are eligible to apply for these bursaries include: those who have qualified for a State grant towards their fees; those who are in receipt of a medical card; those who are dependent on social welfare (including, but not confined to, Jobseeker Payment, One Parent Family Payment, Carer’s Allowance, Disability Allowance); those from groups underrepresented in third-level education (including people with disabilities, Travellers and certain ethnic minorities, low-income socio-economic groups, those who live in or come from disadvantaged areas, and/or those who have attended DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) schools). People who can demonstrate that they have an active commitment to social justice will be given credit for this in the application process.

The five €1,000 awards are open to either part-time or full-time students commencing study in September 2012. Students must have been accepted on one of the programmes before they can apply for a bursary. Only first-time-entrants to the Equality Studies M.Sc./Graduate Diploma and MA/Graduate Diploma in Women, Gender and Society in 2012 are eligible to apply.

If you are interested in being considered for the award, please send in a short (no more than 2 A4 pages) statement of eligibility to Professor Kathleen Lynch, School of Social Justice, UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4 by post; or by email to socialjustice@ucd.ie.  Please attach your Masters/Graduate Diploma application with the statement.  Please note that we may require evidence of eligibility on financial or disadvantage grounds should you be offered one of the awards.
