Biography:
| Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of School of Social Justice. Head of Subject: Women's Studies. Part of an interdisciplinary teaching and research team providing PhD, Masters, Graduate Diploma, undergraduate and certificate courses in Women's Studies and Equality Studies. Courses : Masters: Gender and globalisation; Gender, inequality and public policy; Feminist and egalitarian research; Undergraduate: The gendered economy Independent researcher and policy analyst for over twenty five years encompassing individual research as well as commissioned research for government departments, statutory agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO's) and European Union (EU).

Research Interests
| Ursula Barry has been reappointed the Irish Expert on the EU Research Network on Gender Equality and Employment in 2010 until 2012. As the Irish representative on the Network an annual assessment from a gender perspective of Ireland¿s National Reform Programme with a specific focus on employment policy is produced and two thematic Reports on specific topics. The latest assessment of Ireland's employment strategy and National Reform Programme from a gender equality perspective has been submitted to EU in November 2010. In 2009 thematic topics which were explored from a gender perspective were Eldercare Provision and Lifelong Learning in Ireland. In 2009 the thematic topics were Gender and Flexible Work Organisation on the Irish Labour Market and Gender Equality, Employment and Taxation in Ireland. Ursula Barry has also been appointed as a Senior Expert on the EU Research Network of Socio-Economic Experts on Non-Discrimination in January 2010 until December 2012. Senior experts have responsibility for designing the work programme of the network, reviewing country reports prepared by national experts and the preparation of synthesis reports based on comparative policy analysis in relation to specific areas of discrimination and disadvantage focusing on age, disability, race, sexual orientation, ethnic origin and gender. Other general research interests include the economic and social position of Irish women; women, inequality and public policy; gender and labour market; Irish economic and social policy, comparative policy perspectives in different EU countries; poverty, inequality and social inclusion in Ireland and EU. |
