Biography:

Judy Walsh is Head of the Equality Studies Centre at the UCD School of Social Justice.

Her publications adopt an interdisciplinary approach to interrogating the field of equality and human rights law. Judy's most recent book Equal Status Acts 2000-2011: Discrimination in the Provision of Goods and Services was launched in October 2012. She is currently leading a major study of discrimination law in Ireland which will report in 2013.

While on a research scholarship at the University of Kent Judy was invited to participate in the Feminist Judgments Project, a dynamic and innovative research project in which a group of feminist socio-legal scholars have written alternative feminist judgments in a series of significant cases in English law. The feminist judgments are published in Feminist Judgments: From Theory to Practice. Judy is also participating in the newly established Irish Feminist Judgments Project.

Judy has undertaken commissioned research for a range of domestic and international human rights bodies and acts as rapporteur for the International Law Association's Committee on Feminism and International Law.
She was the Co-Chair of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties from 2003 to 2008 and continues to collaborate with numerous human rights and social justice organisations. Judy is a board member of:

Research Interests

Current research interests span various aspects of human rights law, discrimination law, feminist and socio-legal theory. Awarded competitive research contracts by several bodies including the Irish Human Rights Commission (2006), the Equality Authority with the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (2007), the Combat Poverty Agency (2008), the Danish Institute for Human Rights (2008) and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (2011).
