Biography:
Dr Aideen Quilty is Director of the Women¿s Studies Outreach Programme at the School of Social Justice, University College Dublin (UCD), a position she has held since 2001. A social justice advocate, Aideen has worked throughout her career to challenge systemic inequity within the Irish education system and increase educational access and participation for mature learners and traditionally under-represented groups. Aideen holds a Doctorate in Education (NUI Maynooth), a Masters Degree in Equality Studies (UCD) and a Bachelors Degree in Education (St Patrick's College of Education, Dublin). Dr Quilty draws on two decades working as an educationalist having uniquely gained first-hand experience within the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. Her teaching areas include feminist theory and praxis, gender equality and diversity. Her research is focused on developing access geographies of space and place within higher education. Most recently her research has focused on combining theories and practices in geography and pedagogy with the aim of articulating a pedagogy for community based higher education.
