Certificate in Drugs Counselling Theory and Intervention Skills in partnership with Merchants Quay Ireland

This unique and innovative course empowers participants to respond more effectively to the issues of drug use and addiction. This course is for anyone with a serious interest in the area of substance use and who interacts on either a paid or voluntary capacity with people who may have drug or alcohol related problems. This course is offered by University College Dublin with two regional locations – Dublin & Cork. Students in each regional location will be required to attend a number of sessions at UCD Belfield. All students who undertake this course will be automatically registered for the Diploma in Drugs Counselling Theory & Intervention Skills in Dublin. However, students may exit after year one with a Certificate award. Progression onto the Diploma in Drugs Counselling Theory & Intervention Skills is subject to grade performance, and possible interview.

Diploma in Drugs Counselling Theory and Intervention Skills in partnership with Merchants Quay Ireland

This professional training course offered University College Dublin in conjunction with by Merchants Quay Ireland is an opportunity for individuals working with drug users to gain intensive training in this interesting and complex field. The course runs over two academic years and includes classroom teaching and placements in specialist drugs services. To be eligible for Year 2 participants must have completed Year 1 (the MQI/UCD Certificate in Drugs Counselling Theory & Intervention Skills) or an equivalent course. An equivalent course must be recognised on the NFQ framework at a level 7 and modules/assignment completed must correspond to those completed in the MQI/UCD Year 1 course. This course offers a progression pathway onto the UCD Bachelor of Social Science (BSocSc) and partly meets the educational requirements for accreditation with the IAAC.
