Graduate Programmes

Postgraduate education is an integral part of UCD's mission and the university is committed to offering programmes that are at the cutting edge of research and scholarship.

The School of Sociology at UCD is the largest such school in Ireland, and is an excellent place in which to undertake postgraduate study. With 20 full-time staff and approximately 1,300 students - including more than 60 postgraduate students - the school plays a very significant role in the development of sociology in Ireland.

The postgraduate programmes in sociology are a central part of the school's activities. First established in 1991, the MSocSc programme has an annual intake of between 30 and 40 students, and is the premier programme of its kind in Ireland. Currently students can choose between 3 different types of Masters courses. A general Masters course, a Masters in Health and Illness, and a Masters in Migration, Race, and Ethnicity.

In addition, there are currently about 30 students in the PhD programme doing original research on a wide range of topics.

As Ireland's capital city, Dublin's thriving and cosmopolitan atmosphere makes it popular choice for postgraduate study. It offers a very vibrant social life and first-rate cultural amenities. The vast social changes that have occurred throughout Irish society in the last decade also provide enormous research opportunities for students.
