Taught Programmes
The School of Sociology offers an exciting and vibrant Masters programme in sociology. The courses are taught by some of the leading exponents in the field in Ireland. Students can choose between five different types of Masters programmes. A general MSocSc Sociology Programmey, a MSocSc Health, Wellbeing and Society, a MSocSc in Crime, Violence and Conflict, a MSocSc in Cultural Sociology or a MSocSc Global Migration and Cultural Differences.
Our Higher Diploma provides a foundation in Sociology and Social Research for graduates with good degrees in disciplines other than Sociology. If passed at an appropriate honours level, the Diploma course provides a means of transition into the Masters degree in Sociology for candidates who do not have sociology as part of their primary degree.

The Patrick Clancy Award is offered each year to the student who acheives 1st Class Honours and the highest grade in the Sociology Masters Programme. The award comprises of a cheque for €1,000 and the Patrick Clancy Medal.
The Mary Kelly Medal is a new award which will be offered annually from 2010-11 over a 5 year period to the student who achieves the best dissertation in the MSocSc in Sociology. It comprises the Mary Kelly Medal and a cheque for €500 and is open to all MSocSc students in Sociology other than those already in receipt of a School prize.
