Who is the Masters in Health & Illness (MSocSc in Health and Illness) for?
The Programme has been especially developed for people who are currently working in the area of Health and Illness, practitioners, nurses, reseachers, as well as students who have recently graduated with a primary degree in Sociology or Social Science or a closely related discipline (such as psychology, philosophy, human geography, history, politics, and economics).

It aims to develop their research and analysis skills on issues pertaining to the broad array of practices encompassed in the sociology of health and illness.
Many students who take this Masters Programme go on to do a PhD.

What will I learn?
You will develop an understanding of the theoretical and empirical foundations of health and Illness in society.
In addition, you will acquire conceptual and research skills needed to work in the area of health or to undertake further postgraduate study.

What is the Programme about?
The MSocSc programme offers you training in issues tied to the Sociology of Health. You will develop an in-depth and critical understanding of social analysis, research methods, health issues and health policy analysis. 

The Programme will help you develop a number of important skills sought by employers in the health and research sector including the ability to analyse health issues, think creatively, look past common and everyday understandings of health, interrogate constructions of health as simply a biological process. But it will also provide you with a grounding in report writing and presentaiton skills.

The Programme is designed to facilitate you in terms of career development, or to progress further in future academic research.
