UCD Multi-Sport Camps 2019

Here at UCD Sport we are proud of our excellent facilities, our camps, our staff and the children who attend.

The ethos of our Multi-Sport camp is to provide an enriching, inclusive and welcoming environment full of fun where children can try a range of sports and activities.

We encourage our campers to try something different, make new friends and most importantly to enjoy their time spent with us.

Camps run from 10am- 2.30pm daily.  The camps offer our popular pre and after-camp service, allowing camp goers the chance to begin their day from as early as 8am and / or finish at 5.30pm. 

As usual we have a variety of sports and activities on offer.

Our next camp will be our February Mid Term Camp which will run from 18th-22nd February 2019 for children aged 4-12 years.

Juvenile Climbing Course (8-16 years old)

Introduction to Climbing : UCD Sport runs a 4 Week Juvenile Climbing Course which caters for boys and girls aged 8 years - 16 years.

These weekly sessions take place on Saturdays 1.45 pm-3.45 pm and teaches your child the basic fundamentals of climbing in a safe and fun environment!

Our next Juvenile Climbing Course will take place on Saturday 22nd September and run for 4 consecutive weeks until Saturday 13th October.

UCD Sport Gecko Club

On completion of the 4 Week Juvenile Climbing Course mentioned above, your child now has the opportunity to join

the offical juvenile climbing wall, UCD Gecko Club.

 

The UCD Gecko Club operates on a 10 Week Term Basis, allowing all youth climbers to return

for weekly practice on Saturdays from 10am - 12Noon.

 

The Gecko Club Term Dates For 2018/19 are:

Term 1 :September 22nd - December 1st ( excluding Saturday October 27th) 

 

Climb for Fun Club (4-10 years old)

An exciting new addition to the climbing options for children.The Climb for Fun Club is for children aged 4-10 years old, and requires no previous climbing experience. The aim of the club is to provide children with a taste of climbing, every week the children will rope climb and explore different routes over the 10 week course.

Time; 12.15 pm-1.45 pm.

Squash is one of the most popular recreational sports at Belfield with the squash courts always in demand. There are four squash courts in the Sports Centre. Squash racquets can be hired at reception in the Sports Centre at a cost of €3.00, where squash balls can also be purchased.

**The squash courts can be booked online or at the reception desk in the Sports Centre, up to 3 weeks in advance (with payment).

The newly refurbished, sand filled synthetic grass Tennis Courts are very poplular among students, staff and the public and are of an excellent standard. They appeal to players of all levels and the courts are available to hire, up to seven days in advance, for students, staff and public. All courts are floodlit and equipment is available to rent from the UCD Sport reception desk. The tennis courts can be booked online up to 3 weeks in advance (with payment).

Prestige 11-a-side Pitch

 
The pitch which is floodlit, is suitable for a wide range of sports including soccer, gaelic games, rugby and for general training purposes.  The actual playing surface is FIFA approved.
The pitch can be booked for eleven-a-side games by UCD students, staff and clubs.  Schools, other colleges, sporting bodies and the general public are also permitted to book the pitch at higher rates.

Devlin Park and R2 Synthetic Pitches
 
During the Summer of 2007, Devlin Park GAA pitch and R2 Rugby were converted to synthetic surfaces with the latest artificial grass technology installed. Both surfaces are approved by the relevant governing bodies for matches and training.  It is envisaged that these two surfaces will alleviate pressure on the remaining natural grass pitches during the winter months.  Both pitches are available for hire on a limited basis by students, staff and members of the public.

UCD Physiotherapy Hub 

The UCD Physiotherapy Hub is a new exciting initiative run by Ciaran Purcell and Karen Cradock based in the Sports Centre with students from the School of Physiotherapy. They provide the UCD Sports Clubs with fantastic resources in particular recovery massage for athletes. Community exercise programmes for a variety of populations and health promotion for all are other services offerred.

Currently the team work with a  number of clubs incluing soccer, rugby, GAA, swimming, hockey, rowing and athletics. The aim of the service is to see athletes who have a high training load benefitting from this service as this massage session is designed to aid with recovery while allowing the student Physiotherapists a valuable learning opportunity.

UCD Better Bones

The UCD Better Bones Programme is an exercise and education programme looking to improve bone health in older adults.  We offer two levels, Better Bones 1 and Better Bones 2. Better Bones 2 is for those who have already completed Better Bones 1

All exercise classes are delivered by a Chartered Physiotherapist and incorporate osteogenic (bone building) and balance/falls prevention type exercises amongst others

UCD Better Hearts

The UCD Better Hearts Programme is a six week Cardiac Rehab programme consisting of cardiovascular and strength training to optimise your cardiac performance. All exercise classes are delivered by a specialised Chartered Cardiac Physiotherapist, Karen Cradock

Active Campus Europe -ACE Programe 

The Active Campus Europe (ACE) program is a sociable 6-week exercise and education program for inactive students, students who might not have been as active over the past year due to the leaving certificate and students who would like to learn about exercising in the gym environment, general health and wellbeing.

 

It involves:

  • Pre and post screening assessment
  • Reserved spots in a variety of UCD Sport & Fitness classes
  • Weekly group personal training sessions
  • Student physiotherapist led group exercise and education class once a week
  • Walk to run class once a week
  • 2 Free pool passes and many more rewards!!!!
  • Meet new friends!

There are 12 natural grass playing pitches at Belfield. The premier grounds include the UCD Bowl and Devlin Park. UCD Bowl, opened for the UCD Soccer club following the redevelopment in March 2008. It is a shared facility which provides a high-quality outdoor sports arena for soccer and rugby. In developing the facility, which serves both codes, UCD is endeavoring to deliver a quality venue which complies with UEFA licensing and IRB standards with regard to playing surface quality and spectator comfort and safety. In addition, sports lighting infrastructure is in place in order to accommodate evening events at the Bowl. The UCD Bowl received the 2009 FAI "Sportsground of the Year".This investment complements the development of the Sports Pavilion which provides state-of-the-art dressing rooms. This facility has been strategically provided to serve the changing/recovery needs of athletes performing at the Hockey Stadium and the UCD Bowl.

Patterson Hockey Pitch

The floodlit sand-filled hockey pitch, finished to a high standard, has full F.I.H. accreditation for international training and matches.  The pitch can also be divided into four 7-a-side soccer pitches. The pitch is a replacement for the polygrass Hockey pitch, the site of which becomes part of the new sports development due to begin construction in early 2009.

The pitch which is suitable for a wide range of sports including hockey, soccer and general training purposes.

The pitch can be booked for both seven-a-side soccer games  and as a full hockey pitch games by UCD students, staff and clubs. Schools, other colleges, sporting bodies and the general public are also permitted to book the pitch at higher rates.

The National Hockey Stadium

The pitch was built in 1994 for the Women's Hockey World Cup finals and the Men's Hockey European Championship finals.  It is reserved for hockey purposes mainly and has covered spectator accommodation for 510 people.  The pitch is waterbased i.e. the pitch has to be watered before activity so as to minimise friction.

The stadium can be booked by UCD students, staff and clubs.  Schools, other colleges, sporting bodies and the general public are also permitted to book the pitch although higher rates are charged.

There are two large multipurpose sports halls in the Sports Centre. The halls are suitable for basketball, indoor soccer, volleyball, badminton, aerobics,One Walled Handball and Olympic Handball and cater for UCD Sport Clubs. The halls can be hired by students, staff and the general public However club allocations take priority and hall-time is subject to availability and equipment requirements.

The Belfield Barbershop is located in the UCD Sports Centre opposite Hall B. It has been in operation since 17th November, 1995, making it one of the longest running businesses on the UCD Campus.

The shop was opened in 1995 by Jimmy Coffey, one of UCD’s most iconic figures, which was then passed onto his son Richie following his death in 2011. 

Since then, Richie and his brother, Jamie have continued their father’s legacy of maintaining and providing the highest level of gent’s grooming at affordable prices. 
The two brothers excel in all styles, both modern and old-fashioned and cater for males of all ages. Collectively, they both have over 25 years of experience in the barber industry and their work is to the highest standard specialising in everything from complete re-styles, short and long hairstyles and beard trimming.

The shop is located next door to the High Performance Gym changing rooms, which makes it efficient to get a quick haircut before or after your workout. It is also very useful for students, staff and everyone in between as it saves the long trip into the city centre.

The Clubhouse beside the Student and Sports Centre is the only bar on campus and provides a great spot for students to hang out whether it is just for a chat and a drink, for lunch with their lovely lunch menu or to watch a match. 

Club events and parties can be booked in either downstairs or in the O'Neill Lounge upstairs.
