UCD Rifle Club hosted the UCD August Air Open 2011 in the UCD Rifle Club Range on Sunday 14th of August.

The standard of shooting exceeded expectations, with Wilkinstown’s Paul O’Boyle taking gold after an impressive 589, out of a possible 600, in the 60 shot. Aisling Miller of Dublin University Rifle Club won the 40 shot, achieving the minimum Olympic qualification score with a fantastic 375. John O’Brien picked up gold in the pistol competition with a score of 518.

UCD also managed some brilliant scores, with John Lancaster’s score of 559 earning him a silver medal in the 60 shot, and bronze in Class A. In the 40 shot competition, Maria Tracey’s score of 347 meant she also took home a silver overall.

UCD also took home medals in Class B, with Joe Thompson coming second, and Claire Leyden third.

With this, the last competition of the season, over UCD can surely be happy with their brilliant tally of wins over the last year. They can also be deservingly confident going starting a new year in September that their shooters are up to the challenges ahead.
