This year’s World Rowing Championships will be held in Bled, Slovenia from the 28th August – 4th September. Ireland will be sending five crews this year made up of rowers from clubs all over the country. Featuring in the line-up is UCD’s Claire Lambe.
Claire will be rowing in the women’s lightweight double scull section alongside Siobhan Mc Crohan (Tribesman RC).
Such an opportunity has been well deserved. This year alone, Claire has performed well in a number of international regattas. At the World Rowing Cup 1 in Munich, Claire placed 12th overall with Sarah Dolan (DULBC). The lightweight double went on to compete at World Cup 3 in Lucrene, placing 17th. Most recently, Claire crossed the line at the 2011 U23 World Championships Amsterdam in 11th place. All this rowing success leads up to the fast-approaching championship at the end of this month.
After all their intense training and preparation - Claire and Siobhan will have the chance to qualify for the Olympic Games 2012 on Lake Bled. To achieve this, the girls must go up against the world’s best and finish in the top eight overall – no easy feat but UCD Boat Club are behind them all the way!
