Queens University RFC hosted the Conroy Cup, the annual Under 21 Irish Universities championship at the Dub Playing fields on Saturday as UCD retained the Cup whilst running up 77 points and not conceding a point in its three games.
UCD Under 21’s took the Conroy Cup for the fourth successive year in Queen’s University, Belfast on Saturday last. The competition, which brings together the best young University players, was played in the most impressive new sports complex in Queen’s.
In a round robin league competition College started with a 22-0 win over a physically strong UCC side before comfortably beating a depleted host side 35-0. As is often the case in this competition the final game against the hitherto unbeaten Trinity team was to prove decisive. After an uncertain first half College turned in a powerful second half to gain a 20-0 win and take the trophy.
