Laois footballer Donie Kingston helped UCD to a four- point victory over his native county in Crettyard, as the students booked a date with All-Ireland champions Dublin in round two this weekend.

The hosts fielded an experimental side, with seven players making their first appearances for the county at this level.

UCD were two points ahead after 10 minutes through Lorcan Smith and Kingston. Laois took their time to settle, but then Colm Kelly and Sean Ramsbottom got them back on level terms. A superb score from debutant Damien O'Connor saw Laois lead 0-6 to 0-5 lead at the break.

The game was won early in the second half as UCD's Kingston sparked a run of six unanswered points, while Smith was also on fire.

Colm Kelly's free after 19 minutes gave Laois their first score of the half, but UCD had already all the hard work done.
