Last night UCD GAA club hosted a free symposium on Player Well-being in UCD's Health Science Building.
The symposium attracted a huge crowd from all sports not just GAA as the guest speakers discussed areas relevant to all athletes competing in sport.
The speakers last night were Dr. Brendan Egan who spoke on Nutrition & fatigue, the connection. Mr. Colin Regan, the national co-ordinator of the GAA programme on drug and alcohol abuse, discussed player lifestyle and 'Why is drink so in vogue? The athlete binge culture'. Ms. Edwina O’Malley discussed Observations on cruciate injury & player concussion. Unfortunately Dr. Pat O'Neill could not join us however Mr. John Murphy, who acted as our moderator for the night, has a MSc B Physio (NUI) GDBS, is a Specialist Member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, is the Clinical Director of Medfit and is a Senior Partner Carysfort Physiotherapy Clinic and Level 3 Accredited Sports Physiotherapist and in Dr. O'Neills absense spoke to the students and guests to the symposium about areas of sport rehabilitation and prevention.
After the talks the floor was opened up for questions and a representative from Accuired Brain Injury Ireland was also there to provide important information cards on concussion. UCD Sport and UCD GAA would like to sincerly thank all the speakers last night and all those who helped in running the very successful symposium.
