DĂșn Laoghaire-Rathdown Sports Partnership have just announced the launch of a new initiative, Link2BActive, that is due to commence rolling in the middle of April.
The aim of this initiative is to try and enable unemployed people, and especially newly unemployed, to be physically active. The Link 2B Active program was developed in 2009 by the South Dublin County Sports Partnership and local partners to encourage those who are newly unemployed or in receipt of any social welfare payments to participate in sport and physical activity.
UCD is delighted to get involved with this initiative and will be providing reduced rates for both individual and team sports. UCD are also encouraging members of the Link2BActive programme to join other areas of fitness and activity such as aerobics classes, yoga, pilates, zumba dancing and climbing wall courses.
More information about the programme:
It is common knowledge that the number of unemployed is increasing. Being made redundant can have a severe impact on the physical and mental health of an individual person, with spin off effects on their immediate family and community. DLR Sports Partnership wish to liaise, therefore, with local sporting facilities to see what opportunities could be offered to the unemployed to avail of your facilities. This would come at no cost to your facility and would help increase revenue generation during traditionally slow business hours.
Posters and flyers will be distributed through social welfare offices, doctor’s surgeries, community centres, libraries, credit unions and more, to inform unemployed people about the programme. This will point people to our website www.dlrsportspartnership.ie where there will be a direct link to facility providers websites with detailed information on the facilities, their offers & conditions.
