UCD Elite Athlete scholars Claire Lambe and Arthur Lanigan O'Keefe have enjoyed tremendous success in recent days on the world sporting stage.
At the World University Rowing Championships in Russia, Claire won the silver medal in the LW1x race. The success at the World's comes at the end of a great season for Claire which saw her finish fourth at World Under-23 Championships and 11th in the Senior World Championships.
Meanwhile, Modern Pentathlete Arthur Lanigan-O'Keefe took Ireland's first major international medal at the sport by finishing third at the World Junior Championships in Drzonkow, Poland last weekend. Arthur, who got a late call-up to the Olympics this summer where he finished a very respectable 25th, led after the first event (fencing) and was still leading after the swimming and riding sections. However, despite a 12-second cushion going into the final combined (run and shoot) event, he eventually had to settle for bronze. It was a historic medal and will add further to Ireland's burgeoning reputation in the multi-event sport.
