UCD was well represented in the All-Ireland Minor Final with both captains being first year students here in UCD - Dave Byrne, the winning captain and Paraic Hanran from the Gallant Meath team.

Other UCD players who done their counties proud yersterday are; Shane McEntee, Ciaran Gillespie, Fiachra Ward (all Meath) and David Campbell, Steve Mulvaney, Mattiu Mac Donncha, Shane Cunningham ( For the Dubs.)

Dessie Farrell's young Dubs put in a very mature closing quarter to defeat the Royals after Meath had cut the deficit to the minimum following Fiachra Ward's penalty in the 43rd mintue.  The Dublin defense were heroic all afternoon with Dave Byrne and Eric Lowndes particularly immense in a strong defensive unit.  1984 was the last time Dublin Minors brought the Tom Markham Cup home and now with a final score of Dulin 0-14 Meath 1-5 the famine is over!
