The 'Cats' won the All Ireland Hurling final with UCD Scholarship students Cillian Buckley and Walter Walsh to the fore.
The team also included former UCD star, the great Brian Hogan. The fantastic Kilkenny team also included UCD students Willie Phelan and John Tennyson on the panel.
Cillian Buckley is an Ad Astra Elite Sports Scholar and a current Engineering Student with Scholarship student Willie Phelan studying Veterinary Medicine in UCD.
Brian Cody’s side dominated the final 20 minutes of the match and never gave Galway a chance to comeback en route to the title-clinching 3-22 to 3-11 win that gave Cody his ninth All-Ireland title, which is a new record for a manager in the Gaelic Athletic Association
It was a surprise in the build-up to the game when Cody named UCD Ag Science student Walter Walsh in the starting line-up, given the under-21 star had not played a senior championship game for Kilkenny before this afternoon. Cody was always sure of the call and was vindicated when Walsh scored 1-3.
"You do what you think is the right thing to do and if you're afraid to do that, you shouldn't be out there.
"Walter's form has been serious in training. It might be seen as a big call but if this was the first round of the Leinster championship there'd be no talk about it because everybody makes their debut somewhere, some people start in the Walsh Cup. Walter decided to start in the All-Ireland final, so fair play to him."
