The weekend just gone, UCC hosted the 2012/2013 Conroy Cup at the UCC Sports Grounds, Curraheen Road, Bishopstown.
UCC RFC welcomed squads from the Institute of Technology Carlow, National University of Ireland Maynooth, Queen's University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin.
With only 3 of last season's team in the squad this young side successfully defended the Conroy Cup at University College Cork on Saturday last. 56-0 winners against newcomers NUI Maynooth in the first match, Collidge found Queen's University more stubborn opposition, before eventually winning 33-17. Trinity, who had beaten Carlow IT and UCC, were the opponents in the final. After a scoreless first half, Trinity went 7-0 ahead just after half-time. Collidge then piled on the pressure and eventually Peter Conlon went over in the corner. Captain Liam Burke kicked the difficult touchline conversion and he subsequently added a further 2 penalties. A late Trinity rally was repelled ... and the Conroy Cup was on its way back to Belfield. Final score: UCD 13 Trinity 7.
