The UCD ladies hockey team continued the defence of their national cup title last Saturday in their 2nd round tie against Bray. This was a potentially tricky tie with Bray looking a much improved side from seasons gone by. The match was a lively affair with the Students enjoying much of the possession throughout the game. Despite this however, chances in front of goal were rare.
First half strikes by Kerry McCommish, Lisa Jacobs and Laura Wilson were all well saved by the Bray goalkeeper, who enjoyed a good day between the posts, making a number of fine saves. In the 2nd half, UCD's best chances came from corners, but again solid defence and excellent goalkeeping kept the students at bay. The game ended 0-0 after extra time and the game was forced to golden goal. The extra time continued in the same vain, with Bray seeing little of the ball, and UCD failing to put away their chances. However, deadlock was eventually broken when Kerry McCommish finished off a neatly worked short corner routine, for her first goal in UCD colours.
The Students thoroughly deserved the victory and got the result that their excellent performance deserved! They now await the draw to discover who will be their opposition for the quarter final, which takes place on Saturday 28th November.
