UCD Mens Hockey fire five at Railway!
An incredible four-goal burst in the first half saw UCD pick up their first win of the campaign and raise spirits for the second half of the season as they disposed of Railway Union at Park Avenue.
Things looked bad for college when Mark English gave Railway the lead inside five minutes but a blistering spell saw the students 4-1 up. But tight marking and excellent tackling and passing play from the likes of Ben Grogan left UCD keeper Ross Gribben with little to do remainder of the 2nd half. Robbie McFarlane struck twice finding an innovative route past, former UCD keeper, Stephen O'Keefe from play before deflecting home a short corner. Rob Lynch's squeeze-shot from a tight angle and Ronan Flannery's excellent finish to a corner move made up the comfortable half-time margin which Tim Hill augmented with a sublime diving deflection. Peter English's drag-flick pulled one back for Railway but it was a mere consolation. The result now leaves the two sides level in eighth on four points. UCD have an excellent opportunity to move up one place to 7th next Saturday as they face Fingal in the National Hockey Stadium.
