Strong start to the new IV season for UCD Archery
On November 7th, the first Interversity League shoot of the season took place in DCU with 11 archers from UCD taking part. In a strong overall performance the team took two first places, a second place and a new IV record. In IV events only scores from current UCD students are counted, so it was encouraging that our 4 first years did so well at their first competitive shoot.
Elaine Chapman won the bare bow beginners category and achieved 401 points, which means she moves on to advanced breaking 400, which is also true of Brian Cullen who scored 412 in beginners recurve. James Ryan not only won the advanced recurve category but broke his own league record with his score of 562. The overall performance of the team secured the second place in the team competition with a score of 2306 achieved by Justin McCullagh, Brian Cullen, Shane Keaveney, Ines Rauch and James Ryan. This impressive start to the league augers well for the DKIT IV on 21st of November !
On Sunday 8th, James Ryan, Colin Travis and Ines Rauch represented UCD in the Dublin Archers Indoor FITA Shoot, a non-IV competition. James came third in male recurve with 1121 points, securing 4 points for UCD’s ranking in the National Archery League. In female recurve, Ines achieved 1 point with her score of 930. Thus, in addition to the points James earned so far, UCD’s rank in the National Archery League is currently 8th with 16 points.
