Wet weather fine results

Although the weather was unkind to the point of cruelty both the Under 20A side and the 1sts had important wins last weekend.

Playing in the heaviest of rain and wind the Under 20’s defeated Trinity 6-5 in the UCD Bowl last Friday night.  A first half penalty by Dan Clifford was wiped out by a second half try for Trinity, which put them into a strong position with 15 minutes left.  However this was to reckon without a magnificent 40 metre penalty into the wind by Terry Jones to establish a lead, which Collidge never looked like relinquishing.  Special mention should be made of Cormac Kavanagh and Andy Boyle who posted and padded the pitch and particularly Johann Van de Flier who not only helped in this but also did touch judge for the whole game.  He is expected to have dried out by Christmas.

It is a tribute to the Bowl pitch that it was perfectly playable the next day for the 1st’s AIB League game against Clonakilty.  This was a dour affair, which Collidge deservedly won thanks to two fine penalties and a conversion by Niall Earls and a try by League debutant Cailbhe Doherty.  The final score of 13-6 was a fair reflection of the game and keeps UCD in the top half of the table.
