ladies hockey glenanne

UCD Ladies Hockey team travelled to Glenanne this weekend, for what was a must win fixture for them. The students grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, bagging two goals within the first 5 minutes. Lisa Jacob was on target twice, finishing off 2 excellent moves to give her side the lead. Glennane pulled one back from a straight corner strike. Valerie Sextion then popped up to score a cracking goal against her former club. This restored UCD's 2 goal advantage. 3-1 was the score at half time, but Glenanne were right back in the game when a shot (which some deemed was hit from outside the circle) found it's way past UCD keeper Grace O'Flanagan. Glenanne then levelled the game at 3-3 with a neatly worked deflection. But the students didn't give up and Kerry McCommish finished off a nice short corner move to restore the student's lead once again. Glenanne could have stolen some points in the dying minutes with a series of short corners. But UCD's defence held out strong for what was an important win.

The Ladies will continue the defence of their Irish Cup crown, as they take on Cork Harlequins in the quarter final this Saturday, at 2.30 in Belfield.
