UCD Athletes selected for Irish team.

Two UCD Athletics Club Athletes have been selected on the Irish Team for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships to be held in Santry Demesne, Dublin on the 13^th December. Maria Walsh (3^rd year physiotherapy) has been selected for the Women’s U23 Team and Laura Shaughnessy (1^st year Radiography) has been selected to represent the Irish Junior Women’s team.

The team was named following the Woodies DIY Inter Counties Cross Country Championships held in Kilbeggan Race Course, Westmeath on the 22^nd November. Maria finished 3^rd out of the U23’s and Laura finished in 2^nd place in the Junior Women. This is Maria’s second national team selection in 2009. In April, she represented the Irish Universities Athletic Association at the Celtic Cross Country Championships in Wales where the Irish team came out on top against Welch and Scottish universities.

This is Laura’s first selection for an Irish team and based on her most recent form, it will certainly not be her last.
