UCD Marian U20 side finally got their hands on a trophy as they overcame St.Vincents on the Dublin League final.

UCD Marian Under 20 side finally got their hands on some silverware at the weekend after a narrow win against St.Vincents in the Dublin League final. Having been unable to retain the National Cup at the hands of Maree, and failing to qualify for the playoffs in the Superleague, the boys were eager to get their hands on a trophy this year.

It was a very close tie and UCD were feeling the effects early on of only a six man squad. Point guard Cathal Finn produced some fine scores and kept Marian close as Vincents guard Mark Nagle was a constant threat for Vincents. However Nagle suffered an injury into the second quarter which took him out of the match and released a little bit of pressure from the side.

UCD began to struggle as some controversial fouls were called and sent Conor James to the bench. Brother Daniel James then came on and even though was limited in his performance due to injury, produced a series of spectacular threes from outside the arc.

The second half saw the team step it up a gear and all players contributed to building a lead. Cathal Finn, who finished with 33 points continued to impress and the overall shooting skill of the team saw the students reach the 100 mark.
