After the disappointment in this years Dublin Head of the River, UCD Boat Club secured an outstanding victory in last weekends University Championships
UCD rowers had a fantastic weekend at the University Championships in Skibereen with victories in the Wylie Cup, the Lady Victoria Cup and the Bank of Ireland Cup.
The Wylie, which is awarded for Men’s VIII's was claimed by winning the Intermediate and Novice events with the UCD Senior VIII crew claiming second in their respective event. While the women secured their equivalent VIII’s competition, the Bank of Ireland Cup, with victory in the Novice and Intermediate events.
The Lady Victoria Cup is awarded to the University with the best overall performance across all events (Men and Women) based on a points system. UCD won it in 2009 in it's inaugural year and retained it at the weekend with a total of 63 points, Trinity were 2nd with 52 and Queens 3rd with 47.
According to club records it is the 15th time the Wylie has been won by UCDBC since the first win in 1938 and it brings the total number of UCD wins of National Championships, Henley Royal Regatta, Wylie Cup, Lady Victoria and Gannon Cup to 97. UCD Rowers hope to reach the 100th victory at the National Championships this year.
