UCD still lie in 2nd in pool A of the Euro Hockey Champions Challenge as they failed to augment their 1-0 win yesterday with a victory today.Goals from Magali Demeyre and Sofia Ambrosoni giving the Belgian outfit Royal Uccle the win.

With both teams tied at the top of Pool A this game was the always going to be a tight match. Belgium got off to a flyer when after 2 minute following a error in the UCD defence Royal Uccle forced a penalty corner and the resultant straight strike by the impressive Magali Demeyere put Uccle 1 up. This gave the Belgium side confidence and they controlled the game for the first fifteen with Grace O'Flanagan called on to make some fine saves in this period. UCD forced 2 penalty corners in quick succession in the 16th minute but they failed to covert either chance and in the 24th minute the Belgian's had two of their own but both were saved by O'Flanagan. Laura Wilson was using the long ball option brilliantly to her forwards Lisa Jacob, Rachel Burke and Rosie Carrigan who were working tirelessly up front but UCD could not break the Uccle defence.

Second half was only a minute old when nice work down the left channel involving Wilson, Burke and Jacob lead to another PC but this attempt was deemed to high by the umpire. UCD were frustrating Uccle with their more physical play and the pressure told on the Belgian's when they were reduced to 9 players following two yellow cards for not retreating 5m in quick succession, but UCD were unable to take advantage with their best chance falling to Jacob who had her reverse stick effort saved. Uccle even managed two corners of their own with O'Flanagan having to make a fantastic reaction save to her stick side to keep the score at 1-0. UCD were helped further when in the 13 minute a third yellow for the Belgium side saw their captain spend ten minutes in the bin for a stick tackle. UCD best chance of the match came in this period when after 17th minutes a move started down the right by Megan Tennant Humphreys through Jacob ended with a reverse stick strike from Orla O Shea hit the post with the keeper well beaten. UCD were looking like scoring wasn't far off with Elaine Collins marauding runs down the right flank and Valerie Sexton always a threat up front. The Belgian's were hanging on. In the 26th minute UCD saw their very own yellow when Kerry McComish was sent off. The Belgian's soon won a short corner but forced their shot wide and the killer blow came in the 29th minute when Sofia Ambrosoni took the ball off O'Flanagan's pads to score the Belgian's second putting the result beyond doubt.

The only consolation for UCD was a losing bonus point which could prove vital at the end of days play tomorrow, when they play France's Cambrai to hold on to 2nd in the group.
