A goal in each half from Adela Bizova was the undoing for college as they fell to hosts Slavia Prague on Tuesday in the 5th-8th play off of the Euro Hockey Champions Challege, leaving them 7th at the end of the tornament.

The game was end to endin the first ten minutes. In the 6th minute when a lisa Jacob shot was saved off the line from there the czech's attacked winning the first short corner of the match when the straight shot was blocked down by Megan Tennant Humphreys the czech entered the circle again to win a second which slipped wide. UCD attacked from there resulting in a strike by Rachel Burke saved by goal keeper of the tornament Andrea Vancurova the save lead to a short corner won by Orla O'Shea but UCD were unable to make use of the opportunity and the Czech's attacked to set up a one on one with Grace O'Flanagan but the she was not to be beaten and the Czech won corner of their own and, with what looked like problems with the pitch which had been plaguing teams all weekend, the push out bouced over the stoppers tick and the corner came to nothing. But on 17 minutes the deadlock was broken as Slavia entered the circle down the left endline the cross was deflected over O'Flanagan and pounced on by Bizova who put the ball high into the net.

UCD were on the back foot but rallied well and soon after Caitriona McGlip won a short corner but UCD saw their switch ball blocked by the Czech's. With ten minutes left in the half UCD looked in trouble as their Vice Captain Tennant Humphreys was called over by the umpire who adjudged that she stopped a very dangerous run into the circle deliberately with her foot but after much pleading from the centre back only a green card was issued and the resulting short corner was again delt with by Tennant Humphreys. Two minute later UCD had their last opportunity of the half to score when after another czech short corner they broke all the way up the field to win a corner of their own and Laura Wilsons sweep was deflected beautifully by Rachel Burke on the right hand side. O'Flanagan had to earn her rest before the break as she crucially saved twice once from a corner and once from open play to leave the scores level at half time.

UCD came out the stronger in the 2nd half as the Czech looked to be feeling the effects of 4 days of hockey with Jacob forcing a save and winning a corner which was send wide. But then against the run of play a short corner was awarded to the Czech's for a stick tackle on the enge of the circle adjudged to be deliberate as the ball was sent to the top of the D Tennant Humphreys' and Bizova's sticks seemed to conect with the ball at nearly the same time and the flew agonisingly in to the top right hand coner with O'Flanagan logged for the straight shot. It was time for UCD to attack again and, helped by a yellow for Bizova, attack they did. Rosie Carrigan, who had been causing problems for the czechs all day, just unable to direct a short corner deflection into the goal and with one minute to go UCD got one last corner and every out field player for college piled up as it was going to be there only shot left but it wasn't ment to be. Confusion at the top of the circle resulted in Slavia breaking down the pitch for a 4 on 1 with O'Flanagan but the Commerce Student pulled of what maybe the best string of saves of her career staying on her feet right till the end before making a save with her chess and both feet before punting the ball to safety.

Unfortunately the score remained 2-1 to the czechs and UCD finished in 7th place over all. It brings an end to a successful UCD career of many of the college team and as well as their coach Mary Logue who steps down to coach her club from her playing days Hermes.
