David McMillan has been named the Airtricity/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Player of the Month for May.

McMillan enjoyed a prolific run of form which saw the Templeogue man score five times as the Students moved into a promising position in the Premier Division standings.

McMillan struck during wins over front runners Dundalk and St Patrick's Athletic, and bagged a brace in a convincing 6-0 win over Bray Wanderers. The 21-year-old also netted in the 2-2 draw against Galway United at Terryland Park.

McMillan, who followed brother Evan into the first team at the UCD Bowl, always felt UCD were likely to hold their own in the topflight. He said: 'I suppose we wanted to keep on looking up and away from the bottom of the table, probably everyone but the players and management felt we'd find it difficult.

'Thankfully that hasn't been the case, and while it's an honour to get this award it really could have gone to any one of my teammates.'
