A number of UCD Athletics Club athletes were competing last weekend in the Woodie’s DIY AAI Senior Track and Field Championships in Morton Stadium, Santry with the hope of making the 20th European Athletics Championships in Barcelona in August.

Despite some impressive performances in the short distance events, the 30 man squad named today for Barcelona, did unfortunately not include any of the UCD students.

UCDs Steven Colvert was awarded a silver medal in the men’s 200m with a time of 21.43 behind Athenrys Paul Hession and came an exceptionally close second in the 100m sprint to Kilkenny City Harriers, Johanathon Holmes.

Mairead Murphy had some stiff competition against 7 National title winner, Derval O’Rourke, but secured a silver medal in a time of 14.38.

Paul Opperman competed in the 100m and 400m and Ciara Everard finished 4^th in the Womens 800m.
