At the age of just 20, UCD Scholarship student, Ms. Claire Lambe has worked hard to earn her recognition within the rowing world.

Having trialled successfully over the past year, Claire, of UCD Ladies Boat Club, Dublin, has had an amazing season.  Having trained for the Lightweight Womens Double Scull event, Claire and her Doubles partner, Sarah Dolan (20), of Trinity Ladies Boat Club, went on to earn eighth place overall at the Under 23 Championships in Brest, Belarus. Subsequent to this, Claire travelled to Bled, where, competing at World standard, herself and Siobhan McCrohan (23) of Tribesmen Boat Club, competed in the Lightweight Womens Doublescull event to earn sixth position in the A final. The pair then finally embarked upon Montemor-O-Velho, Portugal to achieve a hard-fought fourth place in the Lightweight Womens Double Scull event at the European Championships.

While undoubtedly one of the biggest success stories of UCD Ladies Boat Club in recent years, Claire has merely scratched the surface of her potential. Following her result at the European Championships, Claire was quoted as saying "'A medal would have been great but overall I'm really pleased with the progress we've made this year. We've shown that we can compete with the best. I'm looking forward to training next winter and coming back even stronger than this year." We look forward to following her for the 2011 season, and UCDLBC wish her all the best."

In recognition of her achievements, Claire is one of 17 students from rugby, hockey, GAA, track and field, rowing, and pentathlon who have joined the new UCD Elite Athlete Academy for 2010 .
