The UCD Swimming Club competed in its first CUSAI league fixture on Sunday, 15 November 2010, at the Kingfisher Club at NUI Galway.

The combined male-female team topped rivals NUI Galway 102 to 66 in a dual-meet styled competition.

‘This was UCD’s first dual-meet in the new CUSAI national league,’ Head Coach Earl McCarthy remarked. ‘I was very impressed with the UCD performance from both the men’s and women’s team. There was an excellent sense of team spirit and pride which was reflected in some fine performances from UCD students. There is some strong opposition in the year’s league, but with this opening win from UCD it sends out a clear signal to fellow universities.’

The league consists of three rounds against other Irish universities, a semi-final against the top four scoring teams from the rounds, and the league finals competition against the two top-scoring teams, which will take place on 25 March 2011 at Trinity College Dublin.

The UCD team, led by Captains David Cooney and Rachel Breslin, will host the next fixture in the next two weeks against University College Cork, dates to be determined.
