Last Saturday and after a break of one year, UCD archery hosted an archery Intervarsity competition (IV) again which opened the new Intervarsity season.
UCD archery had one of the biggest teams with 25 participants, among them many new members who shot at a competition for the first time. Two of them, Brian Nolan and Nick DiMascio, crossed the score of 400 already which means that they will move on to advanced recurve now. But the other new members also showed potential and it can be expected to see many of them moving on to advanced in the next upcoming IVs.UCD archery dominated the rankings in two of individual classes, advanced male and female recurve. Kevin Roche swapped categories this year and is shooting advanced recurve now. With his score of 534, he secured the third place for UCD in advanced male recurve. James Ryan won again first place for UCD with 548 points. In advanced female recurve, UCD also took two places in the top rankings. Ines Rauch came in third place with 470 and Anne-Marie Donohoe in second with 478, only short of one point to take first place. It already promises to be a very interesting season this year since all scores are quite tight which also proves in the team competition. UCD became runners-up with a score of 2510, beating UL by only 6 points. DCU was only another 13 ahead of UCD, taking first place with 2523.
Following the IV on Saturday, UCD also hosted the Student Open 2010 on Sunday in which UCD was represented by James Ryan, Kevin Roche, Justin McCullagh and Ines Rauch who came in first place in her category (female, below 525)

The next IV will be in DCU this Saturday and UCD will compete with a promising team there, too.
