Bord Gais Neptune returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 92-78 win over Northern Conference high flyers UCD Marian.

Neptune's up and coming centre, Jermaine Kamara, made his first start for the Cork outfit as they overcame UCD Marian. The 18-year-old along with his team mates strong defence played a huge factor in the win, with UCD’s USA star James Crowder restricted to just 19 points.

Marian did reduce the arrears to just six points with three minutes to go but Pat Price’s charges held their nerve. Late baskets from Ger Noonan and Michael Bonaparte ensured a welcome 92-78 win for Pat Price's men on Leeside.

One note of concern for Neptune was the injury to Michael McGinn, who was rushed to hospital after taking an accidental knee to the head, but the player is likely to be available for their next league encounter.

“I think what makes UCD a good side is when they are on a rhythm they can shoot the ball,” said Neptune Head Coach Pat Price. “We set out to take them out of their rhythm and I felt our defence kept them off balance in the first half.

“We are just pleased to get back to winning ways,” added Price. “The Play-Off’s is our sole focus now and when we met on Monday last we agreed our record was 0-0 and we are starting our season over. We had some great performances from across the court, including Ger Noonan, who had an incredible nine steals on the night.”
