UCD is delighted to be hosting the finals stages of Ulster Bank Sigerson Cup Competition 2011 in Belfield from Thursday 3rd March to Saturday 5th March 2011.

The Sigerson Cup is the premier Gaelic Football competition for Third Level Institutions, named after Dr George Sigerson, who was Professor of Biology in the Catholic University School of Medicine/University College Dublin.  The Cup was first presented in 1911 with UCD topping the roll of honour with 32 Sigerson Cup titles. UCD won the first title in 1913 but our greatest era undoubtedly was in the 1970’s when we won the title six times in seven years.   These Sigerson Cup wins proved to be the launch pad for success further afield, as UCD went on to add two All Ireland Club Championship wins in 1974 and 1975.

As part of the Centenary Celebrations UCD is planning a Gala Dinner in O’Reilly Hall on Saturday 5th March 2011.  The event is hosted by Dr Hugh Brady, President of UCD, and the guest of honour is President McAleese.  Dr Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh will act as Master of Ceremonies.  We are hoping that 500 distinguished guests from the GAA, the Irish Universities , as well as UCD and Sigerson alumni will attend this very prestigious anniversary event to honour Dr George Sigerson and the Sigerson Team of the Century.

Bookings are now closed for the Sigerson Gala Dinner. For further queries, contact Sinead Dolan, UCD Alumni Relations, Room 102, Tierney Building, Belfield, Dublin 4 01 7161698
