UCD is delighted to be hosting the finals stages of Centenary Ulster Bank Sigerson Cup competition in Belfield from March 3rd – 5th 2011. To celebrate the Sigerson, UCD are organising "Sig Fest" which is a week of exciting events to lead up to the weekends games.
The Sigerson Cup is the premier Gaelic Football competition for Third Level Institutions, named after Dr George Sigerson, who was Professor of Biology in the Catholic University School of Medicine/University College Dublin. The Cup was first presented in 1911 with UCD topping the roll of honour with 32 Sigerson Cup titles. UCD won the first title in 1913 but our greatest era undoubtedly was in the 1970’s when we won the title six times in seven years.
In recognition of the contribution that Dr. Sigerson and the competition named after him has made to the holistic experience of students at UCD, a celebratory festival for students called “Sig Fest” is being organised in UCD from February 28th – March 4th inclusive.
Sig Fest will be a week long series of events run by UCD Sport, Societies and the Students Union. All the events are free of charge and are sure to provide an exciting run up to the weekend’s finals.
Students should also note that entry into matches is also free of charge and we encourage everyone to go out and support your team! For a full list of the weekends Sigerson match fixtures see here: Sigerson Cup Fixtures
