UCD Student Joe Sweeney won a 30k race today in Holland in the Groet Uit Schoorl Run.Sweeney outclassed the field winning by over 4 minutes.

Joe posted a time of 1:34.04. While the 2nd place athlete Tim Stessens managed 1.38.19 and the 3rd placed was filled by Orphan van Faassen who posted a time of 1.42.21.

“That's 2.12 pace for the marathon, with the standard for London Olympic Games 2.15. If Martin Fagans injury situation continues then Joe is now Irelands best chance of a marathon competitor in London 2012.”

In the final event of the day, Ciara Everard (UCD) produced a solid performance to collect a bronze medal with third place in the women’s 800m final in a respectable time of 2:07.98.
