Continuing on from the recent achievement of regaining The Morrow Cup for the IUABA Junior Intervarsity before Christmas and not happy to rest on their laurels, the club turned their focus to the Senior Intervarsities which took place last weekend.

The event was held in the nearby Trinity Sports Centre. In a competition that witnessed an impressive standard of novice boxers and under the watchful eye of the irreplaceable former Head Coach Tom Butler, the UCD team triumphed in a closely contested event. UCD featured in 6 finals, claiming no less than 4 titles outright (Feather Weight, Light Welter, Light Middle Weight, Middle Weight). Natalie Sheridan won her title uncontested while Shona Maguire narrowly lost her final. The commitment made throughout the year by the boxers, who trained five nights a week in the lead up to the event, was justified in their performance. Jack Matterson also represented the college the same weekend, comfortably winning an extra bout that was arranged to coincide with the Seniors.

UCD Boxers are now looking forward to hosting their “Brawl in the Hall” tournament on the 17th of February and the Annual Colours Tournament the following week in Trinity Exam hall. The Club would like to thank the Student Centre for providing the hall and the Sports Department and the AUC for their constant support.
