UCD Ladies Hockey teams hope of repeating 2009s historic win was brought to an abrupt end as Railway Union stormed to a brilliant second half win the Jacqui Potter cup final

It was a quiet first half and finished scoreless as there was no real chances, few flashes across goal or action noted throughout. The second half however, brought all the action and with it 6 goals, unfortunately for UCD, only one of them was for College!

By 38 minutes the game had turned around as Railways Dooley and Walsh had netted two courtesy of two corner rebounds to put them in a prime position.

By 49 minutes it was 3-0 to Railway as yet another corner roofed into the net. UCD continued to play hard but the St. Patrick’s Day crowd was skeptical in their sights of a comeback.

The beliefs were confirmed a mere 2 minutes later as on 51 minutes Kate Lloyds cross took a deflection and ballooned off Dillon for her to claim her second of the game.

Into the last 10 minutes, Railways confidence continued to grow as it was assumed they were now on course for their first ever Jacqui Porter Cup. UCD however did not drop the heads and continued to attack and defend aggressively. This was awarded on 66minutes as Rachel Burke claimed one back for UCD off a neat corner move. Was their time for an unlikely comeback?

The answer was undoubtedly no! On 70 minutes Railways Deacon hits a ranking pass as Dooley cuts in and squares for Lloyd to tap in a fantastic 5th just to add salt to the wounds of UCD.

UCD must now concentrate on their next encounter which sees them face either Pegasus or Lurgan in the semi-final of the Irish Senior Cup on April 16th.
