UCD pulled off an exciting steal in the last 5 minutes at Belfield against Fingal to win 2-1 and further their bid to climb the table.

In a first half of few chances, Gary Sharman profited in the 27th minute for Fingal as the ball was turned over in their own 25 and the Kilkenny man was left with a free shot which he reversed into the middle-right of the goal.

Eamon Bane was the key man for Fingal at the time and his side saw one taken off the line early in the second half when a drag to the bottom-right hand corner was blocked by a combination of John Brennan and Gareth Carragher. UCD's Shane O’Donnell went close with a corner, his claims that his shot hit a foot on the line missed by both umpires.

But, with five minutes to go, the students were back on terms when Ben Dobson stole the ball in the right-hand corner and worked his way into the D. From the corner, Luke Chadwick slapped a ball into Conor Motyer’s path to deflect into the roof of the net.

And with the umpire’s giving the two-minute warning, Chadwick received the ball from a sidelineball and beat a couple of defenders and smashed home from a tight angle – a beautiful individual goal to win it.

UCD will now hope to repeat the result again as they play the return fixture against Fingal next Saturday, the 2nd of May, in ALSAA.
